Create scoping and clarification documents. - Design preliminary one-line and electrical plan; specifications and datasheets for buildings, switchgear, transformers, breakers, etc; all bills of material necessary to fulfill project scope. - Create engineering budgets. - Improve existing engineering tools to streamline negotiation process. - Approve and modify quotes from vendors. Engineering work on project team (past): - Generate one-lines, three-lines, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and electrical/physical layouts, sections, and details for substation projects. - Specify and requisition high voltage apparatus, medium and low voltage switchgear, protective relay panels, control buildings, communication equipment, bus, conduit, grounding, cable, fittings, hardware, and miscellaneous electrical equipment. - Perform grounding and lightning studies, and create/modify relay settings for new/existing protection relays. - Review and approve vendor drawings and incorporate customer specifications and comments into design. Vendor approval packages include switchgear, MCCs, buildings, relay panels, and all major apparatus. - Corroborate with clients, contractors, purchasers, project managers, construction managers, and provide construction support to field service technicians. Answer questions from the field over engineering packages I have issued for construction. Field work (past): - Test PTs, CTs, breakers, transformers, annunciators, and relay panels. - Perform integrity tests of motor and cable insulation. - Create, run test plans, and change settings on site for protective relays. - Verify circuitry of schematics in newly constructed substations and rewiring as necessary. Other: - Participate in recruitment events and mentor new employees.- Utilizing shop tools to disassemble capacitors, assemble test sets, and maintain testing stands. - Run capacitor testing station. Bring capacitors up to high voltage, safely discharge and take test measurements. Update weekly Excel plot to observe capacitor degradation. - Maintain automated capacitor testing station. Tweak LabView program running the tests, ensure consistency in measurements and test station. - Produce control station to remotely control test bay. Sketch scheme for control box; select and order LCDs, lights, switches, knobs, and other components; design PCB board for fabrication; communicate between two PLCs over fiber optic cable; wire, test, and troubleshoot.
